Rick Mikula, “the Butterfly Guy”, an international expert on butterflies, will be at the Northeast Fair on TBA

Find out how you can attract, keep and enjoy butterflies in your garden or home.  Rick’s fast paced, high energy programs will teach you how to identify, locate and understand butterflies and how to raise butterflies and moths at any time of year by using simple, recyclable, household items. You will learn the secrets of butterfly gardens that will not only attract the flying jewels of the sky, but also cause them to lay eggs and start a population right at your home.

Rick Mikula  is a veteran of thousands of lectures, seminars and workshops that have delighted butterfly enthusiasts around the country for over a decade. He has appeared on many TV shows that aired nationally and worldwide for the Animal Planet Network, The Discovery Channel, Fox Network and PCN to name a few. Other shows have been done for many other network and local stations throughout North America. Atricles and photos of The Butterfly Guy have appeared in People Magazine, Teen Magazine, Fitness Magazine, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Wall Street Journal.

Young’s Funny Farm
Therapy Animals

Young’s Funny Farm provides Animal-Assisted Therapy and provides homes to abandoned and rescued animals. The animals come from a variety of sources and were either placed, adopted from the government or other agencies such as the SPCA, rescued directly or dropped off. It is the home of some very special therapy animals including Timmy who is a service dog, Buddy and Shorty who are two miniature horses, and Honeybun, one of only two certified therapy donkeys with the Delta Society.

Richard Jost, expert authority and grower of orchids, exotic and rare tropical plants will display his own Jungle Paradise. . . a display of Antirrhium, Amorphophallus, Philodendron and registered hybrid orchids some of which will be for sale. Jost has been involved with orchids and exotic tropicals for almost 45 years and is a member of the American Orchid Society for about that long. Jost creates registered hybrid orchids and describes his passions as. “Once a hobby only for the rich who could afford to keep hothouses, growing exotic plants and orchids is something anyone can do in their own home.”

Jost, accompanied by his wife, Jan, will give a lecture - “Bromeliads: Pineapple Relatives You Can Grow at Home”  Here about the basics of growing tropical plants in your home - culture, feeding, watering, choosing the right plants: orchids, aroids, common and unusual tropicals..

NEPOS - the Northeast Pennsylvania Orchid Society will be at the Fair all week. One of its primary goals is the awakening of the lifelong joy that can be achieved through the hobby of growing orchids. NEPOS has been in the business of educating and spreading the good word about  this amazing obsession. NEPOS  will provide an  extraordinary exhibit of live orchids. This year’s theme: Orchids Native to Pennsylvania.
